These brands are a little late to the party with their first cushion foundations. But the rare, hard-to-harvest ingredients in each one makes them winners. What you get: serious skincare benefits, on top of a flawless finish.
La Mer The Luminous Lifting Cushion Compact SPF20 has the brand’s iconic Miracle Broth – made from fermented sea kelp – which plumps, hydrates and smooths skin. Humidity- and sweat-resistant, the foundation has buildable coverage and a semi-matte finish. In 12 shades, $160 each.
La Prairie Skin Caviar Essencein-Foundation SPF25/PA+++ has caviar water, distilled from caviar, to hydrate and firm. The foundation offers light to medium coverage with a natural finish that blends into skin. In 11 shades, $365 each.
CNP Laboratory Propolis Ampule in Cushion SPF50+/PA+++ has propolis – a bee by-product used in hive-building that’s said to be anti inflammatory and antimicrobial. The foundation also has gold, which diffuses light to give lustre to skin. It offers medium to high buildable coverage. In two shades, $54 each. – KT
WE TRY, YOU BUY
Lancome Monsieur Big Waterproof Mascara, $48
What it is: A waterproof, sweatproof and smudge-proof black mascara. It claims to last 24 hours, even in humid conditions. It’s supposed to add so much volume (12 times that of your lashes) that it gives a “falsies” effect.
Verdict: “I tested the mascara in the shower, with the full force of the water running into my eyes and down my face. It stayed put. It also didn’t budge even though I rubbed my tired eyes throughout the day. I liked how buildable the product was. It wasn’t too wet, so my sparse lashes didn’t clump up with the first swipe. I could control lash volume – a wispy single coat for work; multi-layered and sexy for a date. The wand’s soft fibres are fluffy enough to comb through lashes so they fan out nicely.” – CT
