Matte, Not Dry

The universal wish of women who love matte lip makeup is not to look like an extra from Mad Max – someone who just survived days in the desert without water.

Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment ($40) goes on like a watery tint, then dries to an intense matte finish in seconds. And its firm, pointed applicator enables you to draw a well-defined lip, which means you can skip lip liner altogether. From its 20 shades, we’ve picked seven that don’t play up dry lips – even if you’re prone to chapping. - KT

BIY is the New DIY

Clinique’s BIY Blend It Yourself Pigment Drops is designed to turn any moisturiser into either a lightly tinted one (add one drop) or a full coverage foundation (add two or three). How to make magic: shake the bottle, dispense the required amount onto your palm, and blend with your moisturiser. To customise it further: Use a mattifying moisturiser to get a shine-free finish, or a hydrating one for a translucent glow. In three shades, $56 each. - KT

When Boo-ti has an event at its secondstorey space, facials won’t be available due to the noise. But it’s business as usual downstairs for manis/pedis as customers will be plugged into Netflix.

Hotspot: Boo-ti Parlour

The nail and facial salon at 84 Joo Chiat Place is currently the Her World beauty team’s favourite pampering spot.

Founded by Liz Watt, a trained beauty professional, and business partner and friend Melanie Ess, Boo-ti Parlour stands out because:

1) It spoils customers rotten – you get an iPad to plug into Netflix while you stretch out in an Osim massage chair behind drawn curtains for complete privacy.

2) Facials are carried out in a cosy, partitioned room at the back to minimise noise from the main area where nails are done.

3) According to Watt, Boo-ti Parlour is the first spa in Singapore to offer Sothys’ Homme Facial, “because we want our male customers – we see one for every four women – to experience a facial with products made for their skin”.

4) Boo-ti’s second storey is for skin care, makeup and grooming workshops, and even yoga classes.
