Not All Hyaluronic Acid Is Equal
The superhero moisturising ingredient holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water. And it’s in a lot of skincare. But it’s not the same in every product. The molecular weight, or size of the hyaluronic acid (HA) molecules, matters. The higher the molecular weight, the larger the molecules.
Sothys says larger HA molecules sit on top of skin, so the hydrating effect can be seen right away, while smaller molecules sink into skin, so the hydration lasts longer.
The brand uses both molecule sizes in its Hydra 3HA Hyaluronic Acid range. The Intensive Hydrating Serum for all skin types has low molecular weight HA. The two moisturisers (Hydrating Comfort Youth Cream for normal to dry skin, and Hydrating Youth Cream for normal to combination skin) and the Hydra-smoothing Mask for dehydrated skin have high molecular weight HA. Used together, they provide longerlasting and better hydration. $113-$185
