"B.zero1 ROCK rings, Bvlgari"

ROCK STARS

Unveiled 21 years ago, Bvlgari’s B.zero1 jewellery collection has undergone several updates in the ensuing years. Refreshed for 2020, the B.zero1 Rock series substitutes the original spiral coils with rows of studs. The youthful new style is set to appeal to both men and women with its pairing of dazzling diamonds with studs in yellow gold, and black ceramic with rose gold. The pendants have also been updated with geometric chains. The rings and bangles are ideal for stacking, and you can also mix and match them with previous iterations of the B.zero1 rings and bangles.

SMOKES CREEN

The open-worked mechanical heart of the Hermès Arceau Squelette is subtly showcased with gradient-shaded sapphire crystal that darkens towards the edges, ensuring that the Arceau series’ signature sloping (or what Hermès terms “galloping”) Arabic numeral indices are clearly legible, something which is often a secondary consideration in skeleton watches. Continuing the equestrian theme are stirrup-shaped lugs on the 40mm stainless steel case, which is paired with a handstitched strap made from the soft skin of an alligator’s belly.

PLAYING FOR KEEPS

New members have been added to the line-up of Prada’s ethically sourced fine jewellery collection, which made its debut last year. The latest designs revisit the symbols and motifs that are close to the heart of the Italian fashion house—the robot, guitar, banana and bunny—but in white gold. A new heart motif and baroque pearls have also been added. Available exclusively at the ION Orchard store.

CUTENESS OVERLOAD

There’s a charming naivety to the Lucky Animals series by Van Cleef & Arpels, which combines the jeweller’s affection for fauna with its expertise in semi-precious stones. Five creatures—the turtle, horse, pig, panda and duck—have joined the menagerie, crafted from various hardstones, such as malachite, lapis lazuli and carnelian, bordered by gold beads. A few of these adorable clips fastened on a collar or lapel add whimsy to even the most sombre suit.

WRIST-WORTHY

Four of our favourite timepieces at the inaugural LVMH Watch Week 2020 held in Dubai

GOOD AS GOLD

To create the gold-flecked dial of its Classic Fusion Gold Crystal watch ($27,600 for the 45mm & $26,300 for the 38mm), Hublot heats 24-karat gold to melting point, then lets it cool and crystallise. The resulting flakes of gold are arranged on the dial, then sealed with 20 meticulously applied layers of lacquer. As no two gold crystals form the same shape, each timepiece is one of a kind.

OVER THE MOON

The Zenith Elite collection welcomes a new member to the family: the Elite Moonphase. The subtle sunray dial provides the ideal foil for the moonphase display and adds texture to an otherwise minimal design. Its sleek styling will no doubt appeal to both men and women, although the latter will likely gravitate towards the smaller 36mm version ($22,700) with a diamond-set bezel.

SCALE UP

Bvlgari has added a tourbillon complication to its Serpenti Seduttori timepiece (price upon request) that was launched last year. It currently holds the record for being the smallest women’s tourbillon watch on the market. If this doesn’t dazzle you, the diamonds will. The case and dial are tricked out in snowset round brilliant diamonds with approximately 7.89 carats of diamonds decorating the “scales” on the bracelet.

BIRTHDAY BOY

One of the most talked-about offerings of the fair was the TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition ($9,100), inspired by the first generation of Carrera models launched in the 1960s. This reissue features a silver dial, which helps to maintain the clean, uncluttered aesthetic of this chronograph. This anniversary model is limited to 1,860 pieces, which is the year TAG Heuer was founded.

DIAMOND LIFE

This unprepossessing lump of carbon may look like a rock that fell from outer space, but beneath the gunmetal-silver surface is the world’s second-largest rough diamond. Approximately the size of a tennis ball and weighing 1,758 carats, it was discovered at the Karowe mine in Botswana and christened the Sewelô diamond. Louis Vuitton purchased the diamond and plans to cut it into smaller stones for its high jewellery collection. Apart from custom-cut stones, one of the possibilities for this raw diamond would be Made-to-order Louis Vuitton Cut gems cut in the shape of the House’s emblematic monograms. With Louis Vuitton closely involved in every aspect of the creative transformation of the Sewelô diamond, the end result is something jewellery lovers are eagerly anticipating.
