Go For Gold

A glittery veil on the eyes, highlighting powder over the face, or gold-flecked lip gloss – the skin-flattering hue is right in line with the festive mood. Here’s why you should have some gilded makeup in your arsenal.

It’s an eye-opener. A touch of gold at the inner eye corners brightens your eyes and makes you look less tired. Makeup artist Melissa Yeo says that it also makes close-set eyes appear further apart.

The colour makes smoky eyes pop, because gold eyeshadow balances the dark hues. “It creates more dimension so that smoky eyes don’t look flat. Dab gold eyeshadow onto the middle of your eyelids and blend,” says Yeo.

And it makes your skin appear healthy and luminous. “Silver-pink highlighter tends to be too stark on Asian skin if it’s not well blended. Gold highlighter, on the other hand, is closer to Asian skin tones and is easier to pull off. It brightens and warms the complexion in a more natural manner,” says Yeo. – GYH
