Dr Karen Soh, medical director of Prive Clinic, tells you the best ways to treat pigmentation, sagging skin and that maddening tummy bulge.
I’ve heard about a type of botulinum toxin treatment that makes you look like you had a facelift. How is it different from regular botulinum toxin injections?
The treatment is called Dermal Lift and was invented by a renowned plastic surgeon in South Korea. It is a non-surgical face-lifting treatment that uses a different technique and concentration of botulinum toxin.
Instead of being injected into the facial muscles to reduce muscle contractions (and hence, wrinkles), micro injections of diluted botulinum toxin are delivered into the skin, at specific points on the face.
The skin looks instantly tighter and lifted, and results improve over one to two weeks. For optimal results, Dermal Lift can be done together with other face-lifting and tightening treatments like Ultherapy, Thermage, derma fillers and thread lifts.
I let my diet slide over Chinese New Year and there are obvious bulges on my tummy and thighs. I need a kick-start to help me get back to regular exercise again.
I believe in a combination approach to help patients achieve their goals – in this case, pairing Coolsculpting with Emsculpt.
First, to get rid of stubborn bulges: Coolsculpting. It’s best for those who are not obese but need help sculpting stubborn areas. It “freezes” fat cells in the treated area to break them down, but without damaging the skin surface. We include a shock-wave treatment called Z Wave, to break down the fat cells faster.
In the weeks after, these fat cells will be naturally eliminated from the body while the remaining fat cells condense, reducing the fat layer. I like to pair Coolsculpting with Emsculpt, a muscle-stimulating treatment that helps build muscles and burn fat – the two work hand-in-hand to boost results while saving time.
Emsculpt emits electromagnetic pulses that cause supramaximal contractions in the muscles. A 30-min session on your core is the equivalent of doing 20,000 sit-ups. Building muscles increases the base metabolic rate, which, in turn, helps fat loss.
