My Reading Room

Sit on snack cravings.

15 minutes before giving in.

Got the 3 pm munchies attack? Give it about 15 minutes. Holding off can be hard but it gives your body time to understand what it’s really craving. We often mistake thirst for hunger, so if you really need a pick-me-up, try a cup of peppermint tea. It’ll give a hint of flavour and kill sugar cravings.

My Reading Room

Sip on cold water.

15 minutes before meals,

It’s the slimming trick J. Lo swears by – and for good reason. Have a glass of ice-cold water before meals. Studies show this can help rev up your metabolism, because your body burns extra calories heating the water. If plain water isn’t your thing, throw in some lemon – it stimulates digestion and beats bloating.

My Reading Room

Stretch yourself skinny.

15 minutes before eating.

Yoga can reboot a sluggish digestive system, jump starting your ability to absorb nutrients. Keep your head still and exhaling, twist your torso to the right and hold for 10 seconds, inhale as you turn back. Repeat to the left.

My Reading Room

Plan ahead.

15 minutes before shopping.

Healthy habits start with good planning. Take 15 minutes to work out your meals for the week and buy versatile ingredients such as grains, veggies and protein, which keep you feeling full and kick-start fat burning.

My Reading Room

Slow down.

15 minutes at mealtimes.

We spend an average of six minutes eating a meal but our brains take 15 to 20 minutes to receive the signals we’re feeling full. Speed eating is a major weight-gain trap. If you chew each mouthful two times and put down your cutlery down between each bite, you’ll consume 420 fewer calories each meal.
