Two-toned lips are not exactly new – beautyphiles will note that they have graced the runway and red carpets for several years now. This hip lip trend used to involve outlining puckers with a darker colour and wearing a lighter colour inside for a more defined pout – not the easiest trend to pull off.

K-beauty, however, turns this trend inside out. Inside of emphasising the lip line, the Korean way is to blur out the lip line with a light or nude shade, and only add colour to the centre of your pout for a blushing effect. Depending on your choice of colour, you might look like you’ve just enjoyed a cherry popsicle or bitten into the forbidden fruit.

Baby Kisses.

“The idea is to mimic the look of a toddler by reducing the harshness of the lip line,” says Laneige Training Manager Tina Oh. Besides achieving the illusion of “baby lips”, this also corrects the natural signs of ageing.

“As we age, we tend to develop a dark ring around the lips. Lips also become thinner and have a drooping effect. The Korean ombre lips reduces dark lip lines and plumps up lips with its gradient effect,” explains Tina.

According to Tina, this lip trend gained popularity in Korea from mid-2014. Today, it not only dresses the smackers of Korean celebrities, but most women in Korea.
