CLAUDIA TAN TRIED A CLEANSING DEVICE FOR THE FIRST TIME AND IS NOW A CONVERT.

My Reading Room

I will admit this: I am a lazy person when it comes to skincare. I leave my house every day with a full face of makeup and return home each evening only to lie on the couch for hours before removing my makeup. My cleansing routine involves me grabbing a couple of cotton pads and casually going through the motion of makeup removal. This is followed by a quick five-second wash with my facial cleanser. As a result, my very blemished and troubled complexion called for an intervention, which is why I decided to give ReFa Clear, ReFa’s latest cleansing device, a shot.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the ReFa Clear is sleek and lightweight. It is convenient to bring along on your travels without adding much weight to your baggage. It has a single button and comes with a separate charging stand. A six-hour charge was required to fully charge the device on my first use.

THE CLEANSE

After removing my makeup, I lathered a foam-based face wash into fluffy foam and spread it over my wet face. As the ReFa Clear only comes with one button, it is used to power itself on and off as well as to activate each of the three cleansing modes. The three modes are soft, clean and deep. The soft mode is recommended for first time users and mornings, the clean mode for when you need a deeper cleanse after a long day out and finally the deep mode, for the occasional exfoliating or unclogging of pores your skin needs. The soft mode should suffice on a daily basis as it is able to offer a deep cleanse in the gentlest way possible.

I started off with the soft mode and slid it gently across my cheeks and T-zone. Despite the vibrations, the bristles of the brush felt extremely gentle on my skin. It was so soft and comfortable that I started to wonder whether it could really offer a deep cleanse as it promised. After a minute, the device automatically powered off - a function that ensures your skin will not be damaged by overuse. Despite it being so gentle, it made my skin feel as if I just used a deep cleansing mask. My pores felt free from grime and dirt and it left my face feeling fresh.

My Reading Room

Later that evening, I tried the clean mode. It was almost as gentle as the soft mode. I loved how the bristles of the brush felt against my skin. In fact, it was rather therapeutic - like a massage for my face. I later found out that the bristle tips come from a renowned Japanese brush manufacturer. The ultra-thin bristles are meant to reach every inch of your skin. The device is also completely waterproof, making it great for days where I want to cleanse my face in the shower.

The deep cleanse mode felt slightly harsher, but even so, the bristles did not prick my skin at all. As this mode vibrates at a higher frequency, it automatically powers off after 30 seconds and is recommended to be used only once a week.

The ReFa Clear makes use of 3D Sonic Motion that works horizontally and vertically in micro-movements to reach deep into your skin - something washing your face by hand cannot achieve.

THE VERDICT

After a week of using ReFa Clear, I am officially a convert. I have never looked forward to cleansing the way I do now. In fact, I find myself removing my makeup and using the ReFa Clear the moment I get home. It is super satisfying to watch the bristles work their way around my skin. And it never fails to leave my skin feeling all clean and prepped every morning and evening.

It is also worth mentioning that ever since I started using ReFa clear, I stopped getting the usual pimple breakouts I get whenever my period is coming. Hooray for my successful intervention!
