It’s hard to counter sagging skin with just topical skincare. Here to help, Radium Medical Aesthetics offers three procedures designed to lift and firm, sans knives.

Sagging skin is perhaps the sign of ageing that is most difficult to deal with.Serums and creams can only do so much, and surgical facelifts are painful, and require general anaesthesia and long recovery periods. That’s where non-surgical aesthetic procedures come in. Radium Medical Aesthetics offers three – one non-invasiveand the other two, minimally so – that promise the effects of surgical facelifts without the cons.

High Definition K-lift

This 60-minute procedure (from $1,888) starts with local anaesthetic injections. Then, using a fine needle, thin, dissolvable polydioxanone (PDO) threads of different lengths are inserted into different layers of the skin for a tailor-made result. The threads are designed to literally lift the face to help create an immediate lifting effect and aid in collagen synthesis, so the lifting and tightening effects continue well past the treatment. You may experience some facial tightness post-treatment, as well as some mild swelling or bruising.

Silhouette Soft Thread Lift

For a longer-lasting effect, look to the 90-minute Silhouette Soft Thread Lift (from $1,788), which involves local anaesthetic injections, and the insertion of biocompatible and biodegradable Silhouette Soft threads into the skin. These threads, which dissolve in the body naturally six months after the procedure, create temporary, adjustable structural support for the skin.

After the threads are inserted, manual pressure is applied to the treatment area(s) to reshape the skin’s surf ace and help give it an immediate lift. This procedure also promises to stimulate collagen production over subsequent months. Some facial tightness may be experienced post-treatment.

Bruising or swelling may also occur, although this is usually less severe than that experienced by those who undergo the High Definition K-lift. The doctor may recommend going for both procedures, which can be done on various areas of the face, including the eyebrows, jowls and jawline.

Ulthera Skin Lifting

This non-invasive treatment (prices start from $4,188 for the face; additional charges apply for other areas such as the double chin) tackles droopy brows, eyebags, heavy jowls, double chins, and sagging skin on the neck and chest.

At the heart of it is Ulthera, the only ultrasound device approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for skin lifting. It allows the practitioner to see the layers of skin in real time during the treatment, so ultrasound energy can be directed exactly where it’s needed. In this case, the medical-grade high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) targets the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS), a musclelike layer of tissue that lies beneath the fat layer in the skin.

The heat causes the SMAS to contract and tighten, creating an instantaneous skin-lifting effect. It also helps to stimulate collagen production during the process. Results are most obvious after three months. The length of the session depends on the areas treated – a full-face and neck treatment, for instance, typically takes around 90 minutes. You may experience a warm sensation during the procedure, and some mild redness after.
