THE MACHINE THAT WORKS BEST FOR YOUR SKIN.

Different devices help skin in different ways. Lily Kew, founder of Kew Organics and Sugar K Organic Peel Bar, and Manon Allano, managing director of Estheclinic, have drawn up this list:
• LED technology targets acne and dull skin, and stimulates collagen and elastin production, to firm skin and smooth lines.
• HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) encourages collagen growth, which could help lift sagging skin.
• Fractional Skin Resurfacing (FSR) is for enlarged pores, and uneven skin texture caused by pitted scars and wrinkles. It is also said to reduce hyperpigmentation.
• Oxygen-infusion delivers a pressurised stream of oxygen to “push” active ingredients (like hyaluronic acid) in serums into the skin, for immediate radiance.
• Dynamic Pulsed Light (DPL) combines laser and intense pulsed light (IPL) technologies to soothe breakouts and diminish the look of dark spots and fine lines.
• Microcurrent machines deliver electrical currents through skin and muscles to tone and firm them by causing them to contract and tighten. They are also said to help with lymphatic drainage, blood circulation, and collagen and elastin production, for firmness and radiance.

BEST ALL-IN-ONE FACIAL (MACHINE-BASED)

Editors’ Choice
SENSES-THERAPY ($480 FOR 90MIN)

Senses Spa & Beauty, #03-19 The Cathay (tel: 6909-2559)

Brighter skin as well as less visible pores, age spots and fine lines are the immediate results of this treatment. Even after a week, the tester’s face and neck remained smooth and soft. The hot clay mask had an instant lifting and brightening effect, although the tester felt a burning sensation when the machine-based massage stayed on the same spot for too long. Other bonuses: 20min to use the jacuzzi and shower room, and the range of six freshly brewed teas pre- and post-treatment.

Readers’ Choice
RADIUM RADIANCE SIGNATURE MEDISPA FACIAL ($568 FOR 120MIN)

Radium Medical Aesthetics, #03-326 Suntec City Mall (tel: 6837-0507)

This skin revival treatment offers deep cleansing, brightening and lifting. The therapist first applies a chemical peel to smooth skin. Intense pulsed light (IPL) then targets fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and broken capillaries. Finally, radio-frequency waves are used to tighten skin. You might feel a tingly sensation, but the good news is that no needles are involved. The room is so cosy, it’s easy to drift off to sleep.

BEST BRIGHTENING FACIAL (MACHINE-BASED)

Editors’ Choice
VITAGLOW DPL ORGANIC FACIAL ($406.60 FOR 90MIN)

Kew Organics. Visit www.keworganics.com/ourstores for outlets.

This works best on those who have sensitive skin, or are new to light-based treatments. The dynamic pulsed light (DPL) technology combines IPL and lasers to target dark spots and acne-causing bacteria. Only a few pulses are needed, making this a relatively comfortable option if you’re not used to light flashes around your face. The tester had no skin redness or dryness after, thanks to the face massage using collagen gel and soothing inhouse organic serums.

Readers’ Choice
INTENSIVE GLOW TO GO TREATMENT ($107 FOR 60MIN)

Estheclinic. Visit www.estheclinic.com.sg/ contact-us for outlets.

If you’re pressed for time, here’s a quick and effective solution for a brighter complexion, using the clinic’s IPL therapy. Although the skin appeared slightly red after the treatment, our tester could still go about the rest of the day as usual. The treatment also uses cosmeceutical skincare to hydrate skin. Effects can be seen after the first session, but the clinic recommends a course of treatments to see lasting results.

BEST CONTOURING FACIAL (MACHINE-BASED)

Editors’ Choice
KOREAN V-LIFT BOOSTER TREATMENT ($406.60 FOR 40MIN)

Bellezza Aesthetics, #04-13/13A Wheelock Place (tel: 6223-2533)

The tester found this mildly painful (rating the discomfort as two on a scale of 10). But results were immediately visible – the therapist first did the treatment on one side of the tester’s face, and the jawline on that side indeed looked smaller right after. The treatment also involves a quick extraction, mask, eyebrow shaping, and a shoulder massage. Nice touches include tea, biscuits, a hot towel pretreatment, and tea, yogurt and a hot towel post-treatment.

Readers’ Choice
VENUS FREEZE FACE ($390 FOR 60MIN)

BMF Bella Marie France. Visit www.bellamariefrance.com.sg/ contact-us for outlets.

The anti-ageing treatment combines multi-polar radiofrequency and pulsed electro magnetic fields that penetrate skin deeply but painlessly to trigger collagen and elastin production. Skin is supposed to feel tighter, firmer and more elastic, with less sagging and fine lines. The tester’s fine forehead lines were less obvious after, and the face looked slimmer and the skin firmer. However, the lifting effect did not seem as prominent around the mouth. The treatment does not involve extraction, and is relaxing enough that you might doze off midway.

BEST PRE-PARTY FACIAL

Editors’ Choice
EPION SIGNIA ($395 FOR 90MIN)

Epion Clinic, Tudor Court, 145 Tanglin Road (tel: 6732-2122)

The tester’s dull skin had a #nomakeup youthful luminous glow, with cheeks that felt firmer, after this treatment that uses multi-polar radio-frequency waves to stimulate collagen production. The final calming step is the in-house Green facial mask. Our tester left with zero redness, looking and feeling good enough for a night out. The effects lasted at least a week.

Readers’ Choice
RADIUM RED CARPET MEDI-SPA FACIAL ($308 FOR 90MIN)

Radium Medical Aesthetics, #03-326 Suntec City Mall (tel: 6837-0507)

The highlight is the medicalgrade Optical Lens Array Technology (OLAT) LED Red Recharge light therapy (our tester found the light very bright). It’s used for skin healing and to awaken dormant dermal cells so skin becomes firmer. Together with radio-frequency, it is intende to improve radiance and elasticity.

BEST HYDRATING FACIAL TO TACKLE A RANGE OF SKIN PROBLEMS FROM DULLNESS TO SAGGING (MACHINE-BASED)

Editors’ Choice
CRYOLIFT CORRECT HYDRA THERAPY ($210 FOR 75MIN)

Art by Verita, #04-01 Wheelock Place (tel: 6732-0836)

Prior to the treatment, our tester was battling skin dullness and two stubborn pimples. After the session, the skin looked brighter, and only a trace of the spots remained. (The tester took and posted a selfie right away – the results were that good.) If you have sensitive skin that’s prone to redness after facials, this gentle one does the job. Following cleansing and exfoliating, a cool cryotherapy probe is used to apply a serum with three types of hyaluronic acid. It’s a relaxing treatment, so there’s a good chance you’ll doze off.

Readers’ Choice
STEM CELL DERIVATIVE TREATMENT ($214 FOR 30MIN)

Astique The Aesthetic Clinic, #08-00 Shaw House (tel: 6732-3801)

To fight signs of ageing like sagging, this treatment infuses skin with plant stem cells said to promote collagen and elastin production. Peptides, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid are also delivered into skin to keep it moisturised, which helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin tone.

BEST FACIAL FOR INSTANT LIFTING AND FIRMING (MACHINE-BASED)

Editors’ Choice
SENZE RENEWAL PROIONIC FACIAL ($480 FOR 100MIN)

SK-II Boutique Spa. Visit www.mysk2spa.com/ eshop/location for outlets.

This uses radio-frequency to help firm and lift skin. While the lifting wasn’t obvious, the tester saw significantly diminished laugh lines. The extraction wasn’t pain-free, but didn’t cause redness. SK-II’s Skin Signature 3D Redefining Mask and Signs Uplifter are used to enhance the firming effect. Our tester felt refreshed and rested, with skin that looked radiant and felt firmer.

Editors’ Choice & Readers’ Choice
PORCELAIN CRYOTHERAPY INTENSIVE FOR LIFTING AND TONING ($425.86 FOR 75MIN)

Porcelain. Visit www.porcelainfacespa.com/contact-us for outlets.

Like a wonder facial, this made the tester’s skin feel firmer and look radiant. Even fine lines on the neck were less obvious, and the eyes appeared lifted. The extractionfree treatment uses a lowfrequency cryoprobe to bring the skin’s temperature to minus 15 deg C with the aim of toning muscles, lifting and firming facial contours and boosting product penetration. The therapist explains the steps thoroughly and adjusts the facial’s intensity to match your needs.

BEST FACIAL FOR INSTANTLY LIFTED AND GLOWING SKIN (MACHINE-BASED)

Editors’ Choice & Readers’ Choice
GLOW MIRA-LIFT ($888 FOR 120MIN)

Dr Spa. Visit https://drgl.com/store-locator for outlets.

This is one luxe facial, and it delivers results in spades. Our tester noticed a more defined jawline, significantly diminished laugh lines, lightened under-eye circles, less obvious pores, as well as firmer and glowing skin post-treatment. Expect a bearable prickling sensation (it feels like ant bites) from the machines used – radiofrequency, gold-plated derma-channelling and ion-wave technology – to help hyaluronic acid penetrate the skin to intensely hydrate it.

BEST CLARIFYING FACIAL (MACHINE-BASED)

Editors’ Choice
INTENSIVE ACNE TREATMENT ($380 FOR 60MIN)

Estheclinic. Visit www.estheclinic.com.sg/contact-us for outlets.

An LED photomodulation light helps kill off acne-causing bacteria on skin and reduce redness immediately. Because it’s a light-induced treatment, there’s little downtime and no skin peeling. The session includes cleansing, and the application of a hydrating serum and sunscreen. With less obvious redness and pores post-treatment, our tester felt confident enough to get away with applying just a tinted moisturiser afterwards.

Readers’ Choice
RADIUM RESCUE ME MEDI-SPA FACIAL ($218 FOR 65MIN)

Radium Medical Aesthetics, #03-326 Suntec City Mall (tel: 6837-0507)

The facial allows you to customise it according to what you’d prefer. Our tester opted for extractions, LED blue light therapy which is meant to kill off acne-causing bacteria, and a hydrating mask to calm skin. The skin was a little red from the extractions, but the pores looked noticeably smaller. The redness went away after a few hours.
