There isn’t a clinical definition for someone who is addicted to lipstick (or balm, gloss or stain) but we sure know a lot of Dior Addicts. Besides the telling statistic that a Dior Addict Lip Glow is sold every 60 seconds around the world, its other products like the Lip Maximiser, Lip Tattoo and Sugar Scrub are also bestsellers, seemingly specifically designed to fuel our obsession with achieving the perfect pout.

As if all that wasn’t enough, the brand has presented the evolution of a new icon: Dior Addict Stellar Shine. This line of juicy lipsticks fuses the best of both worlds: Bold pigment in 24 shades of pink in all its different forms—from fiery fuchsias to bold plums—and a nourishing balmy formula that cocoons lips in luxurious comfort and 24-hour hydration, thanks to a blend of natural beeswax and five ultra-sensorial oils. All this, while tone-on-tone micro-pearls reflect light from every angle, for multi-dimensional shine in three different luminosities: Glitter-specked Sparkle, metallic Mirror, and everyone’s favourite high gloss Glazed.

These lipsticks exploded like fireworks onto the scene in a series of star-studded parties in different cities. In Seoul, the #BeDiorBePink soirée saw the likes of K-pop stars Sun Mi and Dean take to the stage with full house sets. There, we also got to spend some quality time with Singaporean artist, Narelle Kheng, as well as hear what Peter Philips, the Creative and Image Director of Dior Makeup, and Cara Delevingne, the new face of Dior Addict, had to say about the lipstick.

A bold pink lip makes me feel feminine, and also like a badass. Pink encapsulates all the qualities that make me proud to be a woman—it’s so full of life, flushed with emotion, and it feels rich, fun and sultry all at once.

CARA DELEVINGNE

My first time wearing lipstick…

Was because I wanted to be like one of those women who wore it. To me, they were the essence and epitome of strong, boss women—women in control.

Putting on lipstick is like…

Self-seduction, almost as if you’re flirting with yourself. It’s part of that whole self-love concept, and can give you an instant mood or confidence boost. When I put on lipstick, it’s because I want to get or say something, when I have a message I want to get across.

My top Dior Addict Stellar Shine shades are…

Be Dior, because it’s the perfect mix of pretty and punk with its bold, bright, sexy colour. It’s a colour that I feel like eating when I look at it, and that’s surely what I want on my lips. I have at least three shades in my bag, because it’s fun to mix and match. It’s also great when I’m with friends because I can let them try the colours.

I’m addicted to…

Its formula, because it’s so nourishing, I want to keep putting it on because it’s so moisturising and you get that gorgeous colour and shine.

My perception of pink…

Has changed completely. I didn’t appreciate it as much and I was one of those people who put pink in a box with the “pretty princess” type. But after working with the brand on Dior Addict Stellar Shine, I now understand what a strong, multifaceted colour it is.

My favourite look is…

A black suit, a white shirt, and hot pink Be Dior lipstick—just that flash of colour will make an instant impact.

PETER PHILIPS

The power of pink is…

Exactly one of the reasons why I came up with Dior Addict Stellar Shine, which takes pink out of the cute corner and showcases its other diverse facets. It’s a very powerful colour, and this range has different textures—Glazed, Sparkle and Mirror—which add even more dimension to pink.

I was inspired by…

So many things, from the archives at the House of Dior to the #MeToo movement, which started around the same time we were developing this lipstick. One of the images on my mood board is of a women’s march, with a street filled with thousands of women wearing knitted hats. They were cute and pink, but worn as a message and together, became a strong weapon with a meaningful message.

Pink is symbolic for the brand…

Because it was one of Christian Dior’s favourite shades—and his lucky colour. At Dior, everything is about the multi-faceted woman, like a bouquet of flowers in different pink hues. It’s in the nuances, and the colour is part of the brand’s DNA.

When looking for your shade of pink…

You should also take your skin tone after foundation into consideration, especially if you use colour-correcting makeup. Also take note of your natural lip tone, because this lipstick adds colour but it has a transparency to it, so if you have darker lips, it will read through. Also for your teeth—if you have veneers which can be very white, then expect brighter colour, but if your teeth are more yellow or grey, then you might be better off wearing a pink shade with blue undertones.

I like to apply this lipstick…

Generously, like a lip balm. Then blur out and soften the edges with a Q-tip or finger so that the centre is more intense, and lips look almost like a rose petal.
