Keep calm and go blond

I’ve always wanted to go blond, but the fear of my hair resembling straw after all that bleaching has held me back.

Well, there’s now a way for dark-haired women like me to be as blond as chemically possible without getting our hair fried in the process.

I’m talking about Cureplex, a range that consists of two in-salon products and a take-home treatment that you’re meant to alternate with your usual conditioner. How does it work? The first in-salon product, Bond Creator No. 1, is meant to be mixed with your chemical treatment (be it a colour, perm or straightening product) to protect your mane from damage. The second one, Bond Fortifier No. 2, is applied after your shampoo at the salon to hydrate tresses and smooth down hair cuticles.

Use the third product – Bond Sustainer No. 3 ($38) – at home twice weekly to maintain the results of your in-salon treatment. With this trio, the brand claims that your hair can still look healthy, regardless of the treatment you choose. – Charmaine Lee, beauty writer

Bubbly for your scalp

No, this isn’t one of those beauty trends that involves rinsing your hair with champagne. The bubbly here is courtesy of Tsubaki’s revamped Scalp Serum. Each spritz produces crackling microbubbles – reminiscent of popping candy – that fizz when they come into contact with your skin. The bubbles are a moisturising cocktail of camellia oil and collagen, as well as a camellia malt fermentation extract combined with sorbitol. Sounds complicated, but you can expect scalp-softening benefits from this product.

According to Tsubaki, it’s important for your scalp to be soft because this leads to better blood circulation to the hair follicles. The leave-on serum can be applied when your hair is towel-dried or completely dry. I applied it on my towel-dried scalp and gently massaged it in. The result was a refreshed and soft scalp, and I’m hoping weekly use will make it a healthy foundation for growing a head full of lustrous hair too. – Charmaine
