My Reading Room

French brand Clarins, it seems, has received the memo, which is why it has upgraded almost its entire White Plus whitening skincare line to deliver on that.

Apart from the Tri-intensive Brightening Serum, every other item in the range has been upgraded. There is a cleansing foam, two lotions of different textures (watery and milky), two emulsions (one with SPF20/PA+++, the other, without), a night mask-gel and a body milk.

According to Brenda Loke, marketing manager at Clarins Singapore, the range has been tweaked to be more user-friendly and fast to use.

“The lotions and emulsions now have lighter, improved textures, so users can layer them with other skincare comfortably. They sink in really fast and there is no stickiness. For timestarved women, this is important as it means they don’t have to wait for the products to dry – they can apply them and go straight on to the next one.”

Even the cleanser is designed to be a time-saver, working fast and rinsing off in a jiffy to leave skin clean but without the taut, “stretched” feeling. And the night mask-gel is a slap-onand-go treatment that also fulfils consumer demand for sleeping masks.

Of course, the best textures wouldn’t count for much if the products don’t do their main job of brightening and evening skin tone. For that, the brand has looked to what it deems the most effective whitening ingredient in its arsenal: acerola extract.

Used in the Tri-intensive Brightening Serum, acerola is a cherry from Brazil that’s rich in polyphenols – antioxidants found in tea, grapes, and other fruits and vegetables.

“Our researchers found that acerola is exceptionally effective at cutting melanin production, reducing it by almost a quarter, in fact,” says Brenda. “We also harvest the acerola fruit when it’s still young, as that is when its polyphenol content is the highest.”
