If a Chanel 2.55 is to you the bag equivalent of a Mercedes S-Class (chic, luxurious, timeless, covetable), the latest update is the coupe version. Gone is the quilting, so it looks cleaner and sleeker. The finish: calfskin or nubuck made from leather said to be near flawless, and treated minimally so that it feels peachy soft and will acquire a rich patina. Then there are the cameo charms and grosgrain ribbon side trim that add sophisticated edge. Meanwhile, those into SUVs would dig the bucket bag alternative: sportier and generously sized, with a thick, handsome strap.

Let There Be Rock
The vintage denim look storming fashion now has nothing on Levi’s 505 jeans, which was created in 1967 as the zip-fly alternative (read: easier and more flattering) to the straight-legged button fly, and became the get-up of choice among punk icons such as the Ramones (above) and Debbie Harry. Now, the brand has released the 505C, which has the same perky-butt effect and lived-in chic, but is cut slimmer. is cool.
Pitch Perfect
A series of videos featuring 11 watches arranged in the form of a musical staff might sound like conceptual art – or an Hermes exhibition. On till June 26 at Grand Colonnade South (Level 1 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands), “The Orchestration of Time” by French filmmaker Eric Vernhes showcases the maison’s first watch in a decade, the Slim d’Hermes (above), in the best way it knows how: as a weirdly wonderful installation. For a more traditional preview, the boutique (#01-43) is just 100m away.
Piece De Resistance
Patchwork tends to conjure up images of ’70s homespun hippiedom. Pre-fall’s take is as feel-good, but with a lot more polish: a collage of luxurious tactile fabrics (think fur and exotic skin) in various hues, on both clothes and accessories.
GARDEN BY THE BAY
American designer Tory Burch opens her second boutique here at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands (#B2-102), bringing her distinct brand of Hamptons chic closer to what’s probably her biggest fan base: the modern, CBD-going working woman. Expect her full suite of products, including watches and makeup, in the 2,000 sq ft space that’s decked out to look like a plush yet eclectic getaway home. Even the in-store exclusive matches: a Britten cross-body bag with a patchwork pattern inspired by Beirut-born artist Etel Adnan.
Summer Special
You can study all the memes, but the truth is, it’s pretty much impossible to throw shade as coolly as Rihanna. The Barbadian pop princess, however, has the next best solution: her namesake sunglasses line ($1,300-$3,000) with Dior that not only makes Star Trek-esque visors badass sexy, but also fun, with a choice of six metallic pop hues.
