You know cult skincare brand Kiehl’s strives to make your skin look and feel better, but did you know it’s also into making the world a better place? The brand runs a yearly charity campaign in major cities worldwide, including Singapore. In 2012, it collaborated with local singersongwriter JJ Lin to raise funds for the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore, and in 2015, it donated 100 per cent of the net profits from the sale of two of its products in June, which went towards the restoration of Singapore’s national monuments.

This year, in line with its longstanding tradition of supporting children’s causes, Kiehl’s will be donating 100 per cent of the net proceeds from the sale of its limited-edition Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque – the packaging features artwork by local awardwinning illustrator Tan Zi Xi, aka MessyMsxi – to the Autism Association (Singapore).

A WORTHY CAUSE

Why children with autism? Firstly, children’s causes are one of the brand’s three pillar causes (the other two being HIV/Aids research and environmental issues). Secondly, the brand recognises the incredible amount of resources and care needed for autistic children. The average teacher- student ratio in a mainstream school is 1 to 40, but in a special school, the ideal ratio is 1 to 2 to 6. The money donated will go towards autism-related staff training and development, the sponsorship of needy families, the upgrading of autism centres and the purchase of better teaching materials.

DO YOUR PART

Simply purchase the limited-edition version of the brand’s best-selling Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque ($45) at any Kiehl’s store. Not only will you get to do your part for charity, you can get a clearer complexion while you’re at it. This rinse-off mask is suited for normal to oily skin types and helps get rid of pore-clogging residue that causes dullness. Plus, its key ingredient, Amazonian White Clay, is sustainably sourced from Marajo Island in Brazil, and is fairly traded, providing stable jobs for the native community. What’s not to love?

Kiehl’s x MessyMsxi

Most of Kiehl’s charity campaigns involve collaborations with illustrators, artists and notable personalities – artist Jeff Koons, actress Julianne Moore and singer Pharrell Williams have all had their doodles featured on the brand’s products. This time, it is Singaporeborn, London-trained illustrator MessyMsxi who’s doing her part. After visiting the Autism Association (Singapore), she created the artwork titled Better Earth For Children With Autism for the campaign. The vibrant, whimsical piece reflects the mind of an autistic child, who views the world from a different perspective.
