If you’re looking for a place to escape the bustle and just sit back with a quality cup of tea paired with innovative palatepleasing desserts, this hidden gem ticks all the boxes.

Portico, located in Alexandra Road, takes pride in serving food with seasonal ingredients, including herbs and flowers plucked fresh from their garden in their “portico” (or porch). Head Pastry Chef Charlene Ng walked us through their inspiring and beautifully plated desserts, which pair delightfully with Twinings teas.

Teas are only served at selected F&B outlets.
My Reading Room

Twinings Two Seasons Darjeeling If you prefer something stronger, opt for this clever blend from two harvests – an intense, drier mouth feel from the springtime plucks, and then warm floral notes from the second harvest carried out two months later. The warmth and fullness of the tea envelop the flavours of the crème brulee nicely.

Twinings Budding Meadow Chamomile Comprising whole pollen heads of chamomile flowers plucked and dried straight from the fields, this soothing tea is the perfect accompaniment to the creme brulee. The chamomile cuts the richness of the brulee and the delicate floral flavours are the perfect foil to the fresh citrusy grapefruit segments.

Deconstructed Black Forest, with 70% dark chocolate mousse, edible hazelnut soil, cherry coulis, caramel ice-cream.

Twinings Gold Caramel Rooibos If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, choose this tea instead. The rooibos needles are sun-dried for a rich depth of flavour, while the caramel adds a mild sweetness to the caffeine-free tea. You’ll find that the warmth and richness add a wonderful roundness to the dessert. We could only go “wow”!

Strawberry, Lychee and Cream, with vanilla frothy cream, strawberry compote, elderflower compressed watermelon, lychee sorbet, filo pastry.

Twinings Rose Garden Black Tea Fruits and flowers come alive with this vibrant concoction. Different textures fill your mouth, as the dessert’s fruity-sweet taste contrasts with the intense yet floral aroma of the Rose Garden Black Tea. Chef Charlene shares, “I wanted to create a feeling of being in a warm-lit English country garden.” How fitting!
