1 ASPARAGUS

Pile on these stalky greens as they are a natural diuretic, aiding the body in getting rid of excess fat. At the same time, they can also remove toxins and other waste.

2 COCONUT OIL

This popular health food is definitely more than just a fad. It is rich in medium-chain triglycerides, which are more quickly absorbed by the body and more promptly metabolised as fuel. This means that this oil is less likely to be stored in your body as fat.

3 CHIA SEEDS

These little seeds are loaded with omega-3 fats, fibre and protein.

They also help increase your body’s metabolism and produce glucagon, a fat-burning hormone. Soak them in water for about 15 minutes so that they swell up, before adding them to your oatmeal or yogurt. The larger the seeds, the quicker the hormones are released in your stomach.

4 KALE

When in doubt, cleanse your body with a few cups of this vegetable.

In these delicious leafy greens are detoxifying nutrients that will keep pesky cravings at bay.

5 AVOCADO

The monounsaturated fat you get in this creamy fruit ends up burning fat itself. Plus it disables the body’s fat-storage hormones while boosting metabolism. Win-win!

Definitely the citrus fruit you should be picking up, grapefruit helps to activate fat-burning hormones in our bodies, and also keeps us feeling full for longer.

These root vegetables are high in B vitamins, which help unleash energy from food. They also contain an antioxidant called gluthathione, which revs up your metabolism.

9 WATER

Drink enough H2O and everything in your body will run smoothly, including the process of fat-burning.

Without sufficient water, that process slows down. So make sure you get six to eight glasses a day.

10 TOMATO JUICE

A study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that overweight women who drank 325ml of this drink for 20 days had a decrease in body inflammation.

This slimming juice also increases adiponectin, a protein that breaks down body fat.
