PREP TIME

More is not merrier when it comes to your skincare. Yes, seriously. In fact, a 10-step skincare regimen could end up clogging pores, and making your makeup disappear in this humidity. Aside from using skincare that suits your needs, always gently massage the products into your skin. This will boost blood and oxygen circulation, and help absorption. After cleansing, apply a hydrating toner, followed by a brightening and hydrating serum, and then moisturiser on areas of dry skin. Finish with sunscreen.

MAKE IT STAY PUT

Use a mattifying makeup primer on areas prone to oiliness, such as your T-zone. Pick a colourless primer to smooth out your skin, or use a peach-toned one to brighten up that dull complexion.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT PRODUCT

The most exciting new foundation launch doesn’t mean anything if it doesn’t suit your skin type. Those with dry skin should skip compact foundations, which can make it look dull and cakey, and go for moisturising liquid formulas instead. If your cheeks tend to feel dry and your T-zone oily, you have dry-combination skin and should skip compact foundations as well.

Opt for a tinted moisturiser or a hydrating liquid or cream foundation. Apply a light, even layer and dust loose powder over the T-zone to keep it shine-free. Keep oily-combination and oily skin fresh and matte with a compact foundation or an oil-free liquid one with oil-control and mattifying properties.

GET THE PERFECT COLOUR MATCH

Ideally, you should test foundation along your jawline, and the perfect shade should appear to disappear into your skin. However, if your neck is lighter or darker than your facial skin tone, your product, which should be applied there as well, should match the neck.

APPLY ONLY WHERE NEEDED

For a flawless-looking complexion, and unless the colour of your neck is significantly lighter or darker, there is no need apply foundation on your whole face. Instead, apply foundation where the skin is uneven and over blemishes. Start from the centre of your face, and apply in outward motions.
