Ageing and damage. Yet, many women here still resist wearing sunscreen because of past experiences, when formulas were too thick, greasy and difficult to apply evenly – and ended up mask-like with a white cast no matter how much effort went into blending them – or simply bad news for oily skin as they clogged pores and caused breakouts. In fact, many women who skip sunscreens do so because the ones they have used are not suitable for Singapore’s warm and humid weather.

Now, Japanese brand Sunplay shows you that there is no longer any excuse for not applying your sunscreen! Ever so lightweight and comfortable to use even on hot and humid days, Sunplay’s advanced Skin Aqua Sarafit sunscreens are made with Triple Action UV Shield Technology, which is said to reflect and scatter UV rays, and even absorb them so that your skin doesn’t.

Formulated for use on the face, this technology also keeps the sunscreen formulas stable so that they can effectively protect your skin while keeping it hydrated with hyaluronic acid and collagen. Offering maximum UVA and UVB protection, these products are branded as water- and sweatproof, thanks to the Double Silky Powder Technology, which leaves skin looking smooth and matte.

For the time-strapped

Skin Aqua Sarafit Fragrance Free UV Mist and the summer-edition UV Floral Mist contain hyaluronic acid and collagen to keep skin moisturised, with zero stickiness. The former is perfect for users who are sensitive to alcohol and fragrance as it is free of both.

Formulated with Triple Action Shield Technology, these ultra-fine mists protect the skin against UV rays. Both leave skin instantly smooth and dry, creating a water- and sweatproof shield with its Double Silky Powder Technology.

These sunscreens can also be used over makeup and reapplied as often as needed without ruining your look. Light and invisible, they can even be sprayed on hair for UV protection.

More reasons to give these a spritz: They have no mineral oils and colourants, and the UV Floral Mist has a light floral scent.

For combination-to-oily skin types

Skin Aqua Sarafit Fragrance Free UV Milk resolves your issues with shine, greasiness and makeup that seems to slide off the face by midday.

It has excellent staying power and is billed as the most waterproof among the brand’s four sunscreens. Even under running water, it is said to remain intact as a smooth, even and protective veil. And it can also be used as a makeup base with no worries about it causing blackheads or skin congestion.

For flawless makeup application

Suitable for all skin types, the summeredition Skin Aqua Sarafit UV Floral Essence creates an immaculate makeup base, thanks to its liquid texture. The enhanced formula has a higher concentration of water, and boasts a blend of water- and oil-adapting ingredients that glide over skin comfortably, seamlessly and silkily, without leaving any white tint.

Sunscreen sins

Celebrity makeup artist and Sunplay’s Skin Aqua endorser Larry Yeo discusses the top three common sunscreen mistakes – and how you can avoid them.

#1 Not covering all areas

“Most women focus only on the centre of the face or, even worse, just their dark spots. Sunscreen should go over the entire forehead, all the way to the hairline, as well as on the neck, nape and ears (front and back) as well.”

#2 Using too little

“Many women apply way too little. A pea-sized blob is not enough for the whole face! You need at least three quarters of a teaspoon’s worth of sunscreen for the entire face, neck and ears.”

#3 Not reapplying often enough

“Most women reapply sunscreen only when they are out in the sun for extended periods. In fact, you should reapply it every two hours, especially when outdoors. Wipe your skin with a clean towel to make sure there’s no excess sweat and grime before reapplying, or spritz Skin Aqua Sarafit Fragrance Free UV Mist over your skin.”
