AMANDA ONG ( @AVERINEWYOU)
At 22 years of age, this illustratorgraphic designer already counts the likes of local celebrity, Chen Hanwei, as a client—he engaged her to transform his abode into what now looks like an art gallery filled with contemporary murals. Her inspirations range from botanicals to crying babies; pandas, however, are a recurring sight in her work, from expectedly sleepy to unexpectedly slim forms.

SARAH CHOO (@sarahchoojing)

Not just another 27-year-old rebelling against contemporary society, this photographer, videographer and installation artist explores the concept of flaneur—aimless, carefree exploration—and voyeurism through art. Her works have taken her across the globe, having exhibited at noted venues like Paris’ Grand Palais, London’s Somerset House and Seoul’s Busan Museum of Art, and bagged her top spots at global competitions like the 2016 PX3 Prix de la Photographie (Fine Art category).

KAMAL SAPIEE (www.kamarule.weebly.com)

Better known as Kamarule, this 27-year-old photographer-artist’s eye for capturing the all-too-familiar with a twist is noteworthy to the point that he represented Singapore in the first-ever World Event Young Artists in the UK in 2012, even before enlisting for National Service. The latter turned out to be an experience that has gone on to inspire even more thought-provoking works, like a political poem masquerading as a QR code engraved in wood; or camoufl age cream as a medium on canvas.

MY CULTURAL LiIFE : NATALIE ONG

Age ain’t nothing but a number to this 16-year-old breakout actress-chanteuse.

MUSICAL IDENTITY I’d describe my sound as pop with some R&B soul mixed in. DEBUT TRACK I got to cut and release my first song “Get Gold” for SHINE Festival 2017. While it still has all the pop and R&B feels l love, it definitely has a heavier electronic style. My first-ever public performance was in front of my primary six class. I was so nervous singing Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Put Your Records On”, I had to do it facing the wall. It was actually just recently: Dionne Warwick. Growing up, I used to listen to Michael Jackson albums on repeat. Getting as far as I got on The X Factor Australia in 2016 was a big break for me—coming out of the show, I have received countless opportunities that I am so thankful for. TALENT DEVELOPMENT I’ve been going to singing lessons for the last two years, and attend a music school weekly as well. Having just wrapped Army Daze 2, I’ve also received lots of training having to act and sing live onstage for 20 shows. FASHION FAVOURITES I’m still experimenting and trying out new trends, so it’s hard to say. Right now, however, I’m really into eye-catching dresses for the stage, or a high-waisted jeans and crop top combo for off -stage. Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. ON REPEAT Zara Larsson and Bruno Mars. The legend, Whitney Houston.
