Date Night… With Me, Myself, & I

We’re all familiar with the concept of treating yourself, but what about dating yourself? Here’s the why and how.

Diane von Fürstenberg once said: “The most important relationship in your life is the relationship you have with yourself. Because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself.” So have a night out where the focus is solely on you. Think of it as a mini Eat, Pray, Love journey – you’ll end up learning something new about yourself. Stumped? Here’s a handy timeline for date nights on your own.

5pm Start Here.

Tonight is all about you, so switch your phone to silent mode and resist the urge to check your social media feed once every five seconds. Although, exceptions can be made throughout the night for selfie purposes under two conditions: 1. If the lighting is flattering, and 2. Your makeup is on point.

5.30pm

Time to get ready! Since you aren’t on anyone else’s time but your own, take a long, hot shower with the fanciest-smelling body wash you own. Once you’re done, pick out an outfit you feel sexy in. The night is still young! Head to your go-to bar for a drink or two. If you’re starting to feel like you’ve spent too much time alone, here’s where you can cut yourself some slack (looking at you, extroverts) and get your friends to join you for a nightcap.

6.15pm

If you don’t already have your hype music blaring over the speakers, it’s time to put that playlist on. Remember, you’re going on a date, so primp and prep like you would for a normal date night. Do your makeup, blow your hair out, spritz that fancy perfume… the whole shebang.

Book a movie ticket. Now’s your chance to catch that cheesy AF rom-com that no one wants to watch with you. And a dark cinema will keep you from feeling too self-conscious.

Just because you’re home for the night doesn’t mean your solo date ends there. Wind down by lighting some scented candles, taking a soak in a bath (or just a foot soak if you don’t have a tub), and sip on a hot cup of chamomile tea with some soothing music playing in the background. You’ll have the best sleep you’ve ever had in your life, we promise.

11.45pm

If you’re around town, go for a stroll to admire the city lights. The Marina Bay area, the Merlion Park and Clarke Quay are prime spots for this. If the bar is near your place, take a leisurely walk back instead of getting a cab.
