RUNWAY FACES

Golden skin with a chance of fuchsia lips, quirky manicures, metallic eyebrows and intricate cornrows— this spring/summer 2019 promises a warm front and a cheery outlook.

BABY BANGS

Some call it the micro fringe but baby bangs are just way cuter. Bouncy snips by hairstylist Guido Palau came adorned with the It accessory of the season, the headband—extra-large at Prada and delicately embellished at Miu Miu—while at Gucci, tresses were kept blunt and wispy, matched with doll faces and a devil-maycare attitude.

STRATEGIC SHINE

Pick a feature and make it shimmer. Jewel-toned glitter and metallics masqueraded as face gems, adorning exaggerated winged eyeliner at Burberry, and violet lips at Jeremy Scott. Acne Studios, on the other hand, decided to make eyebrows the focal points with streaks of foil-finish gold, bronze and lapis lazuli blue.

DARK LINERS

Making a surprise comeback for drama was inky black liner in lavish doses. Think kohl-rimmed eyes, smudged and smoked out for a badass femme fatale face, or just along the waterline for a flirtatiously sultry look.

FRESHLY FACIALED

Beauty priorities should always be skincare first, makeup second. Looking like they’d sprung fresh from the facialist’s chair were the healthy, gleaming complexions at Prabal Gurung, Michael Kors, Balmain and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Elaborate skin prep and priming took precedence so that illuminating serums and glow-boosting highlighters could be smoothed seamlessly onto the high points of the face.

CORNROWS

From Off -White to Ferragamo to Hèrmes, braids have weaved their way onto countless runways this season, off ering an edgy juxtaposition to otherwise ultra-feminine beauty looks. The two shows, however, that took this elaborate style to the next level were Prabal Gurung—where full-on beaded braids cascaded down models’ backs—and Valentino, where cornrows were given the ethereal treatment and intricate top knots came softened with airy tendrils on the sides of the face.

THE PERFECT POUT

A bold lip works like high heels—it dresses you up instantly. Taking that cue, barefoot Chanel girls— channelling ’70s Mediterranean jetsetters—stepped out with power pouts in vivid fuchsia and raspberry hues. Givenchy and Burberry served statement lips against fresh, luminous complexions while Escada went fiery in all shades of red.

LUSCIOUS LASHES IOUS

Life-size dolls stepped out at French-Chinese label, Lysandre GL where makeup magic was performed on the lashes. Forget eye-widening shadows and contouring, these were extra-long wispy falsies plain and simple—attached individually and dramatically for major impact. Similar bottom-heavy cluster lashes were spotted at Prada, paired with perfectly nude faces.

FANCY MANIS

Nails were definitely a big part of the look at Moschino. Tailored pantsuits and mini dresses with stockings were emblazoned with marker-style scribbles. This extended to the nail design as graphic zigzags on clear, almond-shaped talons, courtesy of nail artist Miss Pop for Essie. She did Jeremy Scott’s own show, too, outlining shimmery nude nails with precise lines in coral, cobalt blue and turquoise. Meanwhile at Balenciaga, things got major with the most whimsical manicures— red hearts, little bijoux, cat stickers, and even stencilled letters spelling out the brand’s name on each nail.

MIDDLE PARTS

Off-duty or on the runway, centre-parted hair is the easiest and quickest chic ’do to come up with by yourself. It doesn’t matter if your hair is short, long, wavy or dead straight, all it takes is a rat-tail comb—the one with a pointed end—to create a razor-sharp, symmetrical part, some eyeshadow to shade in any unevenness and a soft-hold hairspray to keep flyaways at bay.

GOLDEN GLOW

Bronzer for summer is a given. But this time, it's making a comeback of epic proportions. Dusted all over facial contours, cheeks and across the nose for a truly sun-kissed touch, the golden girls at Molly Goddard, Alberta Ferretti, Ferragamo and Chloé looked like they had just spent the day at the beach, with matching salt-sprayed, wind-swept tresses.
