Our advice to those who still own any of the above: Wear them out. It’s not that their usually homely aesthetic has changed (we got the ones used here from a grocer).
With Alexander Wang and Prabal Gurung having used them to create slick updos on their F/W ’18 runways though, what many women swear by to keep their locks out of their faces at home – their grip is ace – is now actually cool. Just be sure to use them the same way as on the catwalks: with some (or lots of) gel or spray to keep strays and baby hair at bay. – SK
