PLANT GOODNESS
Don’t let the jargon-filled labels on Dr Leaders’ product bottles turn you away. The words essentially mean “our scientists took the beneficial stuff out of plants”, and the starchy texture of their gels corroborates this. Gooey application aside, the serums produced visible results within a week – typically patchy spots on the face were completely tamed. The products are made entirely in South Korea, and are customised for Asian skin.
Available at Dr L Dermatology Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery, #09-09/10 Paragon.

ZESTY AS CHARGED
The updated Gucci Guilty Eau Pour Homme puts you in the shade of a dense lemon orchard, with only a trace of musk underfoot. It holds for several hours in humid weather, then the zest gives way to the sweeter smell of oranges. The striking bottle is a repeat appearance: a half glass, half brushed-metal affair that is a display piece in itself.
Available at Isetan and selected Robinsons outlets.

SAFE BET
Dior knows something about most males: We’re extremely resistant to overhauls, especially in a department as defining as one’s scent. We can’t be too picky either, lest we be seen as vain. That’s what makes the Dior Sauvage line work. One likeable and masculine scent profile is adopted across cologne, shower, aftershave and deodorant. The base smell itself isn’t particularly defining, with subdued zest grounded further by earthy elements and reserved florals, but it scores big on versatility and consistency.
Available at all Dior counters islandwide.

TEA TIME
Rein in the generosity when spritzing Jo Malone Midnight Black Tea. The spray is dormant for a minute or two, then erupts into heady, sweet whiffs laced with a hard edge of talc. Real Pu-erh tea leaves are used during production, so you’ll catch the same tannins that make tea (and wine) pucker your lips. More suitable for evenings when the scent won’t wear down as quickly.
Available at Jo Malone London, #B1-80B, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.

JOYRIDE
The exhilaration and smell as you drive your new sports car for the first time. Ferrari’s bottled that in Man in Red. It’s bold and enlivened, with a dose of sophistry. A leathery backbone props up younger notes of citrus fruit, resin and apple (red, of course). Trails off with lavender, but the refreshing scent clings for more than five hours in the outdoors, making it our pick of the lot.
