Second- and Third-generation Owners of Flexform, an Established Luxury Italian Furniture Brand

My Reading Room

Founded by the Galimberti brothers in 1959, Flexform has maintained a legacy of creating elegant and understatedly luxurious furniture. The second- and third-generation owners were recently in town for the opening of the brand’s newest flagship store. We find out more from Pietro and Giuliano Galimberti, the uncle-nephew owners now helming the company.

How has the brand evolved over the years?
In its inception, Flexform was well known for its classical-inspired furniture pieces. Over the years, styles and designs began to evolve with the rest of the world, and our pieces developed an understated appeal. As Flexform started expanding internationally, we began collaborating with architects and designers.

What is the one thing that has been constant throughout?
“Quality” is the keyword for our designs. We pride ourselves in quality, from raw materials to designs, as well as functionality – our pieces are long-lasting and timeless.

With Flexform’s flagship now in Singapore, what does this milestone mean for the brand?
We’re very happy, especially since Singapore is an internationally recognised hub. It is a determinant in influencing our approach and entrance into regional markets in Asia. Even though there are existing distributions in Asia, such as Japan and China, we hope the Flexform flagship familiarises consumers with the brand as we showcase our latest furniture pieces here.

What do you look out for in furniture design?
Good furniture design is like a language that connects and communicates, and any culture can relate to it. It is almost like an emotional connection, and not a style or look that is affected by trends. The best designs are often a sum of parts; every element adds up to create a successful product. The peculiarity of our collection is that we do not design to shock, and our pieces are often refined and elegant, and never too opulent or overbearing.
