Straight from the tube, you get super-solid colour and wear. Applied with a lip brush, it’s elegant. Dabbed on with fingers, it’s a sheer stain. Each Liptensity is $39.

A tetrachromat is a rare person who can see 99 million more colours than the average human (that’s most of us, who can see only a million shades). American journalist and author Maureen Seaberg has that super vision, and M.A.C has tapped her special ability to create a limited-edition lipstick collection that is something else.

Liptensity, a range of 24 shades, is colour-true – and completely devoid of any over- and undertones.

Without these overand undertones, you have what-you-see-is-what-youget colour, and – according to the brand – hues that can be worn by all.

We tried three hardto- wear shades (Driftwood, a soft lilac beige; Blue Beat, a goth-like blue; and Galaxy Grey, a light grey) for an impartial trial. Are they colours we’d choose to wear? No, because we don’t have the look for them. But do they somehow flatter our diff erent skin tones (fair with pink undertones, medium, and tan)? Incredibly, they did. – JE & CK
