At the recent Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva, three of Cartier’s Santos models – the Dumont, Chronograph and Skeleton – were refreshed and updated. We highlight two of them.

SANTOS DUMONT

Designed to resemble the original 1904 model, the 2019 version boasts a new quartz movement and battery for twice the energy efficiency – it lasts six years instead of three. In gold; steel; or gold and steel, and paired with an alligator strap.

SANTOS DE CARTIER CHRONOGRAPH

Generally, chronos have up to three buttons – one to start, one to stop and one to reset – for the elapsed functions. To keep the Santos de Cartier’s lines clean and elegant, two of the three functions are operated with one button – at 9 o’clock – while the reset button is integrated into the crown. Its folding buckle is also lighter, and like all Santos de Cartier models now, it has straps that can be easily changed. Comes in three variations: pink gold; yellow gold and steel; and steel with ADLC coating.

Fur & Embroidery

Big and small watch players have made strap changes the norm and DIY. But what most haven’t done is to make the process fun. Hublot’s take on that: colourful or furry straps – a bigger bang for its women’s 39mm Big Bangs.

"Cuddly Cuff comes in turquoise or fuchsia, and is lined with black or white rabbit fur."

Hublot has eight new interchangeable straps. Six of them, designed in collaboration with Swiss embroiderer Bischoff, are in either a tweed or ethnic pattern. All are boldly coloured.
