S.W. BASICS

Products from this Brooklyn-based skincare brand each feature five or less ingredients, all certified organic and sustainably sourced. They are effective, easy-to-use, and suitable for all skin types. Our picks:

1. S.W. Basics Oil Serum, $57

Contains avocado, geranium, turmeric and coffee oils. Apply two to three drops of this lightweight product on a damp face (or after toner).

2. S.W. Basics Toner, $44

Raw apple cider vinegar balances skin’s pH levels, while witch hazel possesses acne-fighting properties. Expect clearer skin with continued use.

3. S.W. Basics Cream, $59

Containing just shea butter, coconut and olive oil, this melts into skin immediately without any residue.

CANVAS BEAUTY

This new-in-town Australian brand lets customers create their own oil blend for specific skin conditions. Choose from 36 essential oils and seven carrier oils – some are ACO (Australian Certified Organic, one of the strictest regulators by international standards) certified. After a quick consultation, the counter staff recommends an oil blend for my combination, acneprone skin: Jojoba oil ($155) with tea tree ($60), sweet orange ($45) and lavender ($75) essential oils. Jojoba is said to mimic the natural oils our body produces; tea tree oil has anti-bacterial properties; sweet orange oil is great for reducing inflammation while lavender oil speeds up skin healing. After a week's use, it cleared up two pesky hormonal stress bumps on my chin. The customisation service is free with any purchase.
