Models at the Libertine Fall 2016 show sported nail art with pop-art elements, but for a more wearable look, switch them out for fun rings and bracelets.
Bright, bold makeup reigned supreme on the Fall 2016 runways; we’re talking coloured mascara or super-vibrant eyeliners and eyeshadows paired with an equally intense lip colour. We think of it as a modern, sophisticated reboot of the crazy, out-there makeup worn by the style icons of the ’80s, such as Madonna and Cyndi Lauper. As makeup artist Larry Yeo puts it, the brightness of these colourful looks “pays homage to the anti-conservative women of the 1980s”.
Sure, it’s not an everyday look, but it’s great makeup inspo for times when you want to swop your nude eyeshadows and lippies for pops of colour. But how to nail this trend without looking tacky?
Larry gives us the all-important advice: “On the eyes, any texture works, but I’d recommend a matte finish. If you feel that it’s too strong a look for you, try a softer finish to ease into the colour. For the lips, opt for a bright and creamy hue. Make sure that your complexion looks polished and natural (read: no OTT contouring!), and keep your eye makeup defined (we say go for sharp cat-eye flicks or graphic lines) to achieve a modern look.”
As for your tresses, Larry suggests going for effortless-looking beachy waves – more model off-duty, less tai tai. Finish off the look with fun pop art-inspired accessories such as earrings, bracelets and rings.
