To call Bob Recine a hairstylist is a little... inappropriate. Yes, the American coiffeur has created hairstyles for some of Hollywood’s biggest names – think Angelina Jolie and Tilda Swinton – but his real talent lies in crafting avant-garde, sculptural hairstyles that won’t look out of place in an art museum. This is, after all, the man behind some of Lady Gaga’s elaborate headdresses. Bob Recine: Alchemy of Beauty ($103.80, at major bookshops) gives us a glimpse into the inner workings of his mind by showcasing his original artworks and creations – including his incredible sketches, paintings and sculptures – topped off with beautiful photography by the likes of famed photographers Mario Sorrenti and Steven Sebring. One of the more memorable photographs: that of model Tanya Dziahileva sporting a series of gravity-defying topknots stacked on top of one another. This book is a masterpiece that will keep anyone entertained for hours.
