These winners of the inaugural Vanitee Awards represent the best of the best in their category of expertise.
Sherry Yeo @sherry After graduating from the Parsons School of Design in New York with a degree in Fashion Design, Sherry worked at Oscar de la Renta, assisting designers in bridal and haute couture runway shows. She then went on to study makeup in Shanghai, and now utilises her diverse experience to bring out the beauty of her clients.
Although the bulk of Sherry’s work is bridal, she also does hairstyling and makeup for special events and photo shoots, as well as stage makeup. “In this industry, it’s all about reputation and recommendations. I’m thankful that this award recognises my hard work,” she says. Sherry likes the volume of work she gets through Vanitee, as well as the convenience of cashless transactions.

Armed with a hairdressing diploma from Kimage School of Hairdressing, Gerra’s forte is her versatility in creating looks for all occasions. She especially excels in styling Asian hair. She ensures you look great for every event, whether it is a wedding, a fashion shoot or a corporate function.
Chang Hui Ling @lingpalette
Hui Ling’s aesthetic is classy and elegant. Ling’s Palette is her own business and she specialises in bespoke Korean-inspired bridal makeup and hairstyling. She aims to bring out customers’ best features so that they look fresh, young and dewy on their big day.

Patricia Phan @nailzcouture
This 39-year-old mum, who set up her home-based nail spa in August 2015, attributes her success to the quality of her work, customer service and working with Vanitee. She says: “Vanitee has helped raise my profile and expand my customer base.” Customers love Patricia for her speed, expertise and customer service. One reviewer writes that she always enjoys her experience with Patricia as she is prompt, and makes good recommendations for designs and colours. “I believe that as long as one is committed to doing a job well, there shouldn’t be any bad reviews,” says Patricia.
Casey Lai @caseynailsnbeauty
Casey, a nail technician with 13 years’ experience, has all your needs covered, from acrylic repairs to beautiful nail art. Customers praise her for her cheery personality, patience and ideas.
Michelle Masri @thenailartasaurus
Up-to-the-minute trends and techniques – including foil, glitter gradients and even themes such as Pokemon – are Michelle’s forte. She believes her design background makes her stand out, and her customers agree that she is creative, full of ideas for their nails, and very gentle.

WINNER MIXED SERVICES CAT EGORY
Sherry Cheong @sensedebelle
Sherry’s passion for this industry stems from her pageant queen days; she was Miss Chinatown 2005. She is director of Sen’se by De Belle, her own salon, and offers head-to-toe beauty solutions. Two signature treatments are the Oxygeneo facial, which uses aesthetic-grade equipment for brightening and lifting, and TriLipo Body for slimming.
She attributes her success to hard work, customer satisfaction and transparent pricing. Customer reviews cite non-pushy staff and good communication skills as reasons to return. According to Sherry, Vanitee has raised her salon’s profile on social media. On her future goals, she says: “I hope to expand into a one-stop salon so I can empower women with reliable tips and solutions.”

Winnie specialises in facials, and customises them to address various skin conditions such as dehydration, ageing, acne and pigmentation. Customers say she is knowledgeable, provides a comfortable environment, and is able to deliver significant results in just two sessions.

Head to Tiff ’s comfortable salon in the fashionable Everton Park area for luxuriously pampering and effective body and facial services, thanks to the skills of Tiff and her team – and the high-tech machines they use. She practises a strict no hard-selling policy, and is sincere in solving customers’ skin issues.

WINNER BROWS & LASHES CATEGORY
Elayne Neo @emeraldallure
After passing courses in eyebrow embroidery and lash extensions two years ago, Elayne opened her own beauty boutique in Roxy Square, where she and her team offer Korean eyeliner embroidery, Taiwanese and Russian lash extensions, nail beauty and waxing. The Vanitee app has been fundamental to her business success. “Up to 50 per cent of bookings come from there.
I’m now thinking of expanding and Vanitee will be helpful to my gaining more exposure,” she says. Customers love Elayne and her team for their cleanliness, services and skills. What does she attribute her success to? “Determination. I started with hardly any customers. Look at us now,” she says proudly.

Eyebrow embroidery can give you beautiful, arched brows, but it has to be done by an expert. Internationally certified by Biotek Tattoo College in Milan, Italy, Elena is constantly refreshing her training. Besides brows, she also does lash extensions and semi-permanent eyeliner as well as lipliner.
Viona Soh @anoivintl
Viona is an expert at doing the best extensions for her clients – lower lashes only, single strands, and multiple varieties of thickness and length. She works from a salon in Clarke Quay, where she’s known for her meticulousness, patience and friendliness.
