Portrait of Tammy Strobel

Assertive is not the first word that you’d associate with canary yellow; a colour so happy and cheery, it even has its own Loony Toons cartoon character. Yet, as pre-fall put forth looks in versions of the citrusy hue (Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Gucci, and Valentino included), I began thinking how it might be exactly that, making it the perfect pigment for facing a world fresh from the pause of a pandemic. Single-minded in its pursuit of happiness, unwavering in its effervescence, be it in the form of a utilitarian tote (10) or eyeliner to brighten your peepers (8), it’s a shade that says you’re ready to slay while armed to the teeth with optimism and cheer—no holds barred. For an even bigger visual assault on the senses, go the route of the Golden Arches and team it with yet another traffic-stopping colour: Get comfortable in this nuanced sweater by CELINE (3), before finishing the look with a posh timepiece (9) and glossy slick on the lips (15) in the same arresting hue. Show you mean business with leather (these pants by Alexander Wang (7) do quite nicely) before balancing the bad-ass look with buckets of kindness and compassion as you go about your day—two ever-fashionable emotions that, like the diamonds in your ears (16), will never go out of style.
