ALL THE BUZZ IN FASHION

Come 2019, the Palais Galliera will become the first and only permanent fashion museum in France. Located in Paris, it is partnering with Chanel to build a new exhibition gallery dedicated to showcasing the history of fashion. “This initiative represents a lasting commitment to creation and to the strength of Paris, which are at the heart of Chanel’s business. Supporting an institution like the Palais Galliera is part of our mission to bring fashion history to life,” said Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Chanel Fashion. The Parisian fashion powerhouse will pledge 5.7 million euros to the project, which also includes setting up a learning workshop and bookstore that’ll be open to the general public all-year round.

ENCHANTED KINGDOM

To say that Valentino is built on many facets of beauty is an understatement. “I know what women want. They want to be beautiful,” its namesake founder, Valentino Garavani, once proclaimed. Grace, elegance and screen-goddess style have steered the House to great renown; its prominence taken to more fantastical heights when Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri took over the creative reins in 2008. This lauded partnership may be no more, but the allure still remains under Piccioli’s sole charge. In his first collection since going solo, Piccioli went back to the essence of the brand and concocted a variety of ethereal dresses, some awash in the brightest bursts of fuchsia and pink, others enriched by British artist Zandra Rhodes’ rendition of Hieronymus Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights painting. As if to underscore the fact that beauty is a deeply personal pursuit at Valentino, each model slung a compact vanity case with a hidden lipstick slot close to them as they circled the halls of the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild.

TIGER’S ROAR

Onitsuka Tiger’s Mexico 66 sneaker gained worldwide fame when it made its appearance during the 1968 Olympics. Paraded on the feet of the Japanese delegation, the shoe —and its distinctive markings—has since gone on to become an icon for the brand. The sneaker is getting a fresh new look this season: The timely update is based on the slim silhouette and unique heel wrap of the original model, but the kicks now come outfitted with multi-pattern knits and a striking white midsole finish.
