Pastel pantsuits, check. Tweedy matching twosies, check. Leather opera gloves and chunky kitten heels, check, check, check! All that’s left is a vintage typewriter, and this season’s Prada models could easily transform into power secretaries from the fabulous ’50s. Along with empire line dresses and pea coats, the label’s latest collection is reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock’s leading ladies... but with a modern dose of quirky saccharine charm.
Miuccia Prada elevated the look from old-school to new-age – or, in her own words, “sweet... but violent” – by incorporating futuristic details such as the use of tech fabrics (think jersey material disguised as neoprene) and blown-up molecule prints. By combining nostalgia with sci-fi worthy elements, as always, in the hands of Mrs Prada, things are never what they seem.
