ANDONG ZZIMDAK

Andong Zzimdak is one of the few Korean restaurants here that specialises in Jjimdak. Originated in Andong, a city in the east of South Korea, Jjimdak consists of braised chicken marinated in a sweet and savoury broth made from ganjang (Korean soy sauce) and mulyeot (Korean corn syrup). Served with carrots and potatoes, Andong Zzimdak’s rendition comes with chewy sweet potato noodles and a tinge of spiciness. Round up your besties for this – $45.90 gets you a generous portion that’s perfect for sharing between a group of four.

TOKYO SUNDUBU

Strangely enough, this Japanese restaurant chain specialises in a Korean dish called Sundubu (tofu stew). Each portion comes with a slab of silky homemade tofu and is ordered in three steps. Step one: choose the ingredients you want to go with your stew. These range from common choices like chicken and pork to interesting ones such as “Health and Beauty”, which comes with a dollop of collagen. Then pick from three different soup bases (“Japanese Miso”, “Salt and Ginger” and “Non-spicy”), select a level of spiciness from one to four, and you’ve got a bowl of Sundubu that’s just the way you like it.

SEORAE

You’ll feel like Korean royalty when you dine at Seorae, thanks to the gold ventilators hanging from the ceiling. But the food, of course, is the main attraction. Their signature Woosamgyeob, $24.90, is a plate of thinly sliced beef belly marinated with a special fruity sauce that accentuates the sweetness of the meat without being overpowering. Bimbim Bingsu, $12.90, is also a must-try. It looks like a typical bowl of Bibimbap, but this dessert is actually made with a generous portion of fruits and jelly – super tasty and super Insta-worthy!
