If you’re a home chef who places as much importance on form as you do function, this stainless steel cookware deserves a top spot in your kitchen. WMF Gourmet Plus pots and pans have a stylish matte finish and they aren’t just good looking. Sturdy and robust, and with a solid build, they will sit firmly on any hob, and can also be used in the oven (up to 250 C). And in typical German fashion, the handles are ergonomically-designed to fit perfectly in the hand, but are also cleverly hollowed so they stay cool when cooking, especially on induction.

To save time and energy (read: Money), the TransTherm base absorbs heat quickly, distributes it evenly and retains it for longer, so you know you have an even surface temperature, and you don’t have to be pushing the heat to high when cooking.

Made from Cromargan , the pots and pans are resistant to food acids and a breeze to clean. Other nifty elements include the heavy lay-on lids which sit tightly on the pans and have vents to ensure release of steam; a scale on the inside to make measuring easy; and a wide pouring rim for drip-free pouring. They’re also induction compatible.

The three-piece Gourmet Plus set (comprising 20-cm and 24-cm high casserole with lids and a 24-cm fry pan), at $399, is available at leading department stores.
