A SPARKLING SHOW

Following limited yields in 2003, Krug was blessed with good enough weather the next year to create two beautiful expressions for 2004. Krug 2004 is a blend of chardonnay, pinot noir and meunier, with aromas of candied citrus and spice. The Krug Grande Cuvee 160eme Edition is more familiar, as it is simply the 160th recreation of the House’s annual Grande Cuvee. Made from a blend of 121 wines from 12 different years, it boasts the same roundness and acidity we’ve come to love from one of the best non-vintage champagnes out there.

SUMMER SIPPING

French and Italian wine harvests are at a historic low this year, but let’s not forget that there are still delectable bottles to be savoured from the New World. Cloudy Bay has released its 2017 Sauvignon Blanc and it has, according to senior winemaker Tim Heath, “an elegant and concentrated palate with ripe, juicy stone fruit and lemongrass, supported by a lovely minerality”. While its crisp acidity and long finish might suggest its capability to age well, we recommend grabbing a chilled glass and a tray of oysters as soon as possible.
