My Reading Room

Making the transition from kindergarten to primary school is a huge jump for any child. So it’s only natural to wonder and worry if your little one is truly prepared for school and its many challenges.

To ease children into the big unknown they know only as Primary One, My First Skool has designed a holistic programme for four- to six-year-olds. The Skool- Ready Curriculum helps them develop the skills and knowledge that will contribute to their social and academic success in their early primary years and beyond.

AN INQUIRY-LED APPROACH
The Skool-Ready Curriculum consists of thematic lessons and a project that is based on a topic of interest to children and will challenge them to learn more about the chosen topic. Through this exercise, each child’s resourcefulness will be developed as they discover more about the subject.

LANGUAGE FOR LIFE
In addition to the thematic lessons, there are lessons in language and literacy. Preschoolers have ample opportunities to develop their language skills through spelling, writing, comprehension, and letter and word recognition. They also hone their communication skills through class discussions, show-and-tell sessions and interacting with their peers.

To encourage an early interest in mother tongue, there’s the billingual immersion programme that uses fun and innovative methods to teach the fundamentals of Chinese language and culture. This programme also aims to impart core values and attitudes that will serve them well through life.

NUMERACY AND CREATIVITY
The essentials of numeracy skills are taught through practical exercises such as sorting shapes and telling time. Your little ones also get to express themselves through drawing, painting, crafting and origami, as well as through music lessons.

HEADING OUT
Outdoor play, which is crucial to the development of motor skills, also features strongly in the programme. Besides playtime during the week, children can look forward to field trips every term.

For a smoother transition into Primary One, My First Skool also organises outings to a primary school for K2 children, to familiarise them with a new learning environment as well as daily routines like recess time.

More than just building a strong foundation for preschoolers, My First Skool makes learning fun by engaging children in meaningful experiences and encouraging them to interact actively with their peers and teachers.
