A MODERN EUROPEAN RESTAURANT AND BAR

A MODERN EUROPEAN RESTAURANT AND BAR.

Contemporary-style furniture and fixtures are complemented with locally inspired elements, such as patterned screens and Peranakan tiles.

One might be forgiven for not knowing where Grand Park City Hall is, as the property is located away from the busy streets of City Hall and the Padang. Yet tucked away within the newly revamped wing of this hotel chain is a new dining concept that’s set to turn the venue into a destination for gourmands around the world.

Aside from its delectable spread of modern-European cuisine, the aptly named Tablescape restaurant also showcases a glimpse of what to expect from the new design in the rest of the hotel, which is currently undergoing a major facelift.

The modern interiors lend a cosy, residential-like atmosphere, and are complemented with Neoclassical elements like wainscot panels and cushy seats, and intricate details as visually stimulating features – all coming together to exude an elegance that remains unpretentious.

Sitting right next to check-in counters, the restaurant and bar has an open-plan design that makes the space multifunctional, too. In the day, hotel guests enjoy breakfast here, before it transforms into a midday lounge and, finally, a bar at night.

Reggie Medestomas, senior designer of Studio Hba, the interior design firm behind Tablescape’s design, shares: “We wanted to lend a touch of the local culture, by adding features such as the black-and-white Peranakan tiles and vintage-inspired grilles.” Not just for aesthetics, they help segregate areas as well as provide a sense of privacy.

“We felt that it was very important to ensure that the overall colour palette makes the space look bright and uplifting, so diners feel at home,” Reggie adds. Dining chairs in a variety of textures like fabric and rattan are coupled with sofa seats for a more casual vibe.

Tablescape is also a space that offers the design-conscious lots of tactile experiences with the variety of materials and textures used. Of course, the timeless and understatedly luxurious interiors of the restaurant and bar are also perfect inspiration for home designs.
