What the 63-year-old fine jeweller lacks in rich history (compared with, say, Mikimoto), it makes up for with modern designs by partnering with American designer Thakoon Panichgul (pictured right) to introduce pearl pieces that are less Queen Elizabeth and more Rihanna. So when you visit Tasaki’s first flagship here at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, expect a different way of appreciating pearls – like having them in graphic lines on a bangle so it resembles a knuckleduster, or a single pearl pierced by a gold-plated “canine tooth” (very Riccardo Tisci). – TLW
