My Reading Room

Founded by the same people behind Singapore bespoke shoe label Diamond Walker – Victor Lee, Sunny Lee, Francis Lee and Conrad Chua – http://www.ysneakers.com will give you kicks like no other.

The idea is so novel that it received full funding within 15 hours of its Kickstarter campaign in December 2016. How ground-breaking is it? Well, there’s nothing that you can’t ask for. Choose from 10 upper designs (each with up to 14 different panels to mix and match); 80 materials; shoelace colours, stitching colours, inner-lining colours, insoles, outsoles, and more.

The four dudes have counted, and re-counted multiple times, and concluded that there are up to five sextillion (yes, there is such a number – just add 21 zeros) ways you can have your sneaker.

To make things easier for everyone (self- customisation is hard work), they’ve matched their sizing to Adidas’ Stan Smiths: if you are a size 8 for them, you’re the same for Ysneakers.

Turnaround time from when you place your order to when you get your goods: about six weeks – not too long, considering that they’re made in Korea, or if you ask for them to be hand-painted.

The service doesn’t end when you receive the merchandise: Ysneakers gives free resoles, so you don’t ditch your shoes just because the soles have worn out.
