Kate Low, founder of local lingerie label Perk by Kate, gets intimate with BAZAAR

I was first inspired to start designing lingerie… some time in 2014, about two years after I started the Perk by Kate store. After a period of retailing brands from the US and UK, and having open conversations with my customers about their lingerie options, I began to dream about coming up with a lingerie style that would combine the comfort of a bralette with the coverage of a padded bra. That style—the padded bralette—is now Perk by Kate’s signature, and bestselling, style. 

Perk by Kate’s padded bralettes have reached cult status because… we take fit and comfort very seriously. We want to produce every bralette and make sure that it is a piece our customers will want to wear over and over again. We never stop making small gradual improvements to our bralettes. Every little bit adds up. 

Perk by Kate’s customer base is… pretty diverse. If I had to describe them, they are dynamic, confident and self-assured. These women are aware of their own bodies and are unafraid to buck the trends. 

The #perksquad came about through… becoming friends with my customers. They are absolutely amazing and I think that their stories can inspire other women. Also, #perksquad shoots are never about Perk by Kate’s lingerie, but more personality profiles of our customers and their unique stories. Sometimes, women just need a little reminder that anything is possible. 

The qualities of a #perksquad girl are… independence, confidence, passion and fortitude. 

The latest collection is about… pushing boundaries and trying new styles since it is the brand’s fifth anniversary. You can expect crop tops, bodysuits, camisoles as well as a maternity bralette. 

My vision for the label is… to grow the business without sacrificing the personal touch and service that Perk by Kate is known for. If that means we have to remain small-scale, then that’s good enough for me. I hope to expand the product range and ultimately, be remembered as a brand trusted by women for its comfort and heart.
