Oystersteel Oyster Perpetual 36 watches, $7,490 each, Rolex

Sleek, steady, trustworthy, dependable—these words accurately describe Rolex’s Oyster Perpetual, a timepiece that has become a beloved classic that transcends decades and trends. With the release of this year’s models, you'll be adding “dope”, “snatched” and “G.O.A.T” to that description.

Five new vibrant colours—candy pink, turquoise blue, yellow, coral red and green—have been introduced, resulting in a complete transformation of the watch’s look. Unlike the coloured sunburst polished dials of editions past, 2020’s eye-catching hues exude a distinct brand of spirited youthfulness, thanks to a flat lacquered finish that lends the watches a technicolored Pop Art vibe. But this isn’t a facetious move on the brand’s part (as fans know, that word does not exist in Rolex’s world). The colours, in fact, look back to Rolex’s popular and highly sought-after Stella dials of the 1970s, truthfully replicated for today’s generation of collectors.

Then there’s the fact that the watches now come equipped with Rolex’s new calibre 3230 with several patents to its name, including the Chronergy escapement. What this essentially means is that you get a watch with improved precision, power reserve, and shock and magnetic fields resistance.

Fitted with an Oyster bracelet and an Oysterclasp with the Easylink comfort extension system for optimal fit (a first for the collection), this year’s Oyster Perpetuals boast both high style and high-tech acumen for accessible collectibles that will get you those hearts on the ’gram. n
