It’s no mystery the sea holds untold gems in nutrition and medicine: seaweed is packed with minerals; sea salts can improve dental health, skin conditions and rheumatoid arthritis, the list goes on. More than a decade ago, biologist René Quinton confirmed that the composition of the ocean and our blood plasma give marine molecules unparalleled bio-affinity and perfect osmosis with the skin; and, unlike terrestrial plants, those that live in the water – specifically algae – holds 10,000 times the mineral concentration and trace elements essential to balancing our skin.

According to International Director of Thalgo Arnaud Diaz, their efficacy is born out of their resilience from living in a hostile and stressful living environment that is the vast deep blue.

“Marine plants and micro-organisms develop unique molecules with extraordinary powers to withstand conditions of pressure, darkness, lack of oxygen, strong currents and predators incomparable to those of terrestrial plants,” says Diaz. “These marine riches have incredible and inexhaustible potential as skin ingredients that satisfy all the needs of the skin to maintain its physiological balance and correct its aesthetic imbalances.”

Newly released patented complex, the Marine Mésolift is a high-absorption solution that prolongs tissue regeneration to reactivate the skin’s youth functions. The brainchild of three renowned dermatologists and a university professor specialising in skin engineering, the bio-regenerative infusion Marine Mésolift lends from Aesthetic Medicine but with higher skin- absorption power made possible with 34 percent essential nutrients, hyaluronic acid and an anti-ageing nucleoside to boost cell metabolism.

Considered the marine-cosmetics expert for more than a decade, Thalgo goes to great measures in hiring independent accredited laboratories to conduct pedantic in vitro and in vivo studies for all its products; and the company’s largest investments remain its Integrated and Authentic Fundamental & Applied Research department to seek new marine complexes with unmatched regenerative powers.

To date, Thalgo Research & Development Centre studies 230 active ingredients every year and has created 13 exclusive ingredients, including eight patents, and uses 62 marine, seaside and biomimetic ingredients.

Though efficient, the cosmetics company doesn’t forget its role in protecting Mother Nature by reducing its environmental footprint through an Ecocert-certified production plant, photovoltaic cells and its own wastewater treatment plant. Thalgo also has a Beauty Pact that prohibits it from using ingredients like GMOs, parabens and minerals oils; and imposes strict requirements in control and testing to ensure traceability, safety and efficacy of its products.

“Our commitment to nature is also supported by Aurore Asso, French free- diving champion and film-maker of a marine documentary designed to make us aware of the fragility and the vital importance of these ecosystems,” says Diaz.
