Arvigo Therapy takes a unique approach to healing the reproductive system

Healing professionals are increasingly being called upon to carry out work that honours the human experience with all its joys and challenges throughout the life cycle. Hong Kong-born Jenny Ostling has the privilege of working with clients during their journey to parenthood. “I have been fascinated by holistic and spiritual healing since I was a child and was introduced to aromatherapy, crystal healing, spiritual healing and reiki early in my life,” says Ostling.

After finishing her Art History degree at the University of Edinburgh, she moved to London to study under world renowned aromatherapy and Chinese medicine practitioner, Gabriel Mojay, and also spent time in the south of France. With a profound belief in the powerful healing effects of aromatherapy, Ostling returned to Hong Kong in 2006 to start her own practice in holistic aromatherapy.

However, life had new inspiration and directions for her. “After experiencing challenges, I wanted to find a natural way of assisting fertility and was guided to Arvigo Therapy,” she reveals. She instantly took an interest in Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT) – an ancient healing tradition founded by Dr Rosita Arvigo on the ancient Mayan technique of abdominal massage.

The Arvigo Institute in London and Israel were Ostling’s training grounds and in 2014 she completed her Level 3 Arvigo Therapy training. “Dr Arvigo learned these techniques from her mentor, Don Elijio Panti, the great Mayan Shaman of Belize in Central America with whom she apprenticed for 10 years; combining them with more than 30 years of training and experience in massage, naprapathy, herbology and spiritual healing to create the techniques which now bear her name.” Working at The Sanctuary in Hong Kong, Ostling and her colleagues notice a rise in infertility and male subfertility issues due to “the modern lifestyle of sitting at work all day, wearing heels, increased environmental toxins, pesticides in food and carrying cell phones in pockets”.

“Arvigo Therapy is an external noninvasive manipulation that repositions internal organs that have shifted, thereby restricting the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and chi, and is the only massage therapy that really focuses on female reproductive health that I know of,” says Ostling. Women’s health is approached quite differently by the midwives and healers of Central America. They believe that a woman’s centre is her uterus and as Don Elijio says, “If a woman’s uterus is out of balance, so is she.”

“Dr Arvigo believes that any natural healing technique needs to be holistic to promote optimal health and ATMAT incorporates massage, anatomy and physiology, herbology, nutrition, and emotional and spiritual healing.” Ostling laments about how women are often told, “you have a tilted uterus, there is nothing that can be done” or “it’s normal, don’t worry“ yet depending on the symptoms, treatment options may include birth control pill, muscle relaxants or surgery. Arvigo Therapy profoundly changed Ostling’s reproductive health and feels strongly it can do the same for others.

“I had a client with PCOS and infertility issues whose doctor believed that her uterus had changed from a retroverted position to ‘significantly’ less cysts on both ovaries and able to conceive within a couple of months.” Arvigo Therapy is praised for correcting the position and health of the uterus and abdominal organs and has assisted women with conditions like infertility, pelvic pain, endometriosis, PMS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), fibroids, menstrual and menopausal issues.

Ostling also sees men seeking therapy for prostate health, digestive health and back issues. Specialising in female health, Ostling feels blessed to be a part of this heritage and and honoured to help women from preconception through pregnancy and postpartum periods when she teaches them how to bond with their babies through massage classes. “My aim is to create a safe and nurturing space for my clients so I can support them on all levels – physical, emotional and spiritual, so their healing can begin.” www.jennyostling.com
