Salzburg is famed for its postcard-perfect old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising elegant buildings that date back centuries. Travel back in time with a stay at Hotel Goldgasse, hidden in a narrow lane just steps away from the Residenzplatz and the Salzburger Dom. Formerly a 16th-century coppersmith’s workshop, today the historic building has been transformed into a luxury hideout.

While the hotel’s exterior blends right into the Goldgasse lane, inside the 16 stylish guest rooms feature modern amenities such as a flat-screen television with radio and infotainment system, a Delonghi espresso machine and wellness showers. The history of the hotel is reflected in elements like the antique stone floors, stucco, remains of ancient columns, restored frescos and old wall paintings.

Rooms and suites are spacious, and if you’re travelling with family or a small group of friends, the Rooftop Suite with two bedrooms and bathrooms can accommodate up to six guests. The apartment boasts a rooftop terrace which offers views of the Fortress Hohensalzburg, while the bathtub looking out onto Goldgasse provides a relaxing mini escape.

The popular restaurant Gasthof Goldgasse is in traditional Austrian inn style and serves meals using produce from regional farmers. Indulge in an exclusive selection of Austrian wines and sample dishes such as Weiner schnitzel and the renowned Salzburger nockerl, which is a fluffy soufflé with raspberry cream and vanilla ice cream.

If you’re visiting Salzburg between November 17 and December 26, check out the Christmas markets to enjoy a glass of mulled wine and the festive atmosphere. The closest one to the hotel will be the Salzburger Christkindlmarkt around the DomQuartier complex. http://www.hotelgoldgasse.at
