01 LOOK SHARP
Characterised by bold colours, lush textures and enough spiked studs to cause serious pain to anyone careless enough to step on them barefoot, Christian Louboutin’s men’s shoe collection just keeps going from strength to strength. This season, the designer was inspired by journeys both literal and figurative – his memories of the Milanese art world in the 1970s, for instance, and his holidays to the Himalayas. Among his latest statement footwear, our favourites are sneakers covered in patent leather printed with a collage of old photos – and, of course, lots of studs.
02 SENSE OF RENEWAL
There are designers whom consumers love, and then there are designers who are as beloved by their peers as they are by the people who wear their clothes. Former Lanvin creative designer Alber Elbaz is firmly among the latter. Since his departure from Lanvin in late 2015, he has done a number of collaborative projects, the most recent being “Tod’s Happy Moments” with Italian leather goods brand Tod’s. The capsule collection comprises cheerful takes on Tod’s signature driving shoe, including designs with neoprene uppers, mounted on sneaker soles or covered in the house’s logo.
03 THERE BE DRAGONS
If you were asked to associate Hermes with an animal, the first creature that would probably come to mind would be the horse. This season, however, the brand – which began life in 1873 as a harness workshop – takes its cue from a different creature altogether: the dragon. That central figure of fantasy novels adds a dose of mystique to a selection of new accessories, including a travel bag, a silk tie and a cashmere-and-silk scarf. In the third item, the dragon sports Hermes’ equestrian gear, giving the house’s iconic horses a run for their money.
