THE LIGHT IS GETTING IN

Four years ago, I paid a visit to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York. At the end of the exhibition, this memorial inscription on the wall stuck with me: “No day shall erase you from the memory of time.” It’s an English translation of Virgil’s poem Aeneid – “Nulla dies umquam memori vos eximet aevo.”

This quote rings true now more than ever. The world may still be grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic, but this hasn’t stopped people from being kind and creative. Our actions, past and present, will echo in eternity, which is why we pay tribute to the creatives and the doers in the property field in this issue.

From our cover personality Darius Cheung, who changed the way we search for homes, to superstar designers such as Jean-Michel Gathy, whose transcendental creative work will ensure he is remembered long after, their exploits will never be erased from the memory of time.

History has taught us that humanity will heal and become stronger from any crisis. Cracks, as another more contemporary poet has sung, are how the light gets in.
