My Reading Room

Face oils, an ancient skin remedy long forgotten, are enjoying a resurgence in popularity right now, and for good reason. Unlike serums and creams, which require filler ingredients to create their textures, oils do not need any extras.

However, not all oils are created equal. Some brands add artificial fragrances, dyes and even preservatives, or dilute their oils.

At The Skin Pharmacy, founded and managed by pharmacists who develop and customise the products, there’s a strict rule against ingredients with paraben, alcohol, fragrance, colourant, sulphate or petroleum bases. That means its formulas contain only what your skin requires – nothing else.

Serum No. 6 ($129.90 for 30ml) is its ultra-decadent oil serum, boasting a cocktail of powerful essential oils and precious base oils, all of them nourishing and beneficial to the skin. Rose otto, immortelle and frankincense, reportedly revitalise skin texture, while Roman camomile is known for soothing and reducing irritation.

The base oils include argan, one of the most popular ingredients for moisturising and restoring damaged skin; and marula, which is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids such as omega-3, -6 and -9, and helps repair and firm the skin.

Despite its pure oil formula, the texture is lightweight and non-greasy. Rather than leaving a slick sheen on the skin, it gives a velvety-soft finish – perfect for hot and humid weather. Available at TSP Serious About Skin outlets.
